Producer Jeff Glixman Visits Full Sail

With production credits ranging from Bob Marley and the Allman Brothers to Ludacris, Glixman had plenty to share with students
The Session Recording class recently welcomed GRAMMY®-nominated producer Jeff Glixman to campus. Glixman visited as the latest guest in the class’s monthly “Live Sessions with Sessions” series, which Course Director Michael Reaves created as a way for students to interact with industry professionals who have helped shape popular music.

“This guy is one of the biggest rock producers out there,” Reaves explains. “When I was coming up in the industry I could have never talked to a guy like this, it would have just been taboo. That’s why we work so hard to bring artists like Jeff to campus for students.”

Glixman is currently Vice President of StarCity Recording Company in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and his production credits stretch back nearly four decades – with some of his biggest collaborations including Black Sabbath, Eric Clapton, Ludacris, Bob Marley, the Allman Brothers, and Kansas.

After a short lecture about the current state of the music industry, he opened up the floor for a Q&A session. Students made the most of the forum, asking a wide range of questions, from how to stand out as a young artist just getting into the industry, to some of his best memories working on tracks like “Carry on Wayward Son,” and “Dust in the Wind.”

“There were students who wanted to know super-specific things – like how he got the drum sounds on Black Sabbath albums,” Reaves explains. “And he told them all the tips and tricks that people would normally hold close to their chests. Bringing guys like Jeff in to talk about the history of the industry – they validate what we say in classes and labs, and you can see the light turn on in the student’s heads. It’s all just great feedback.”
